Product input and display

What is a product in MPN?

A product in MPN is a recording medium or a sales unit with one or any number of tracks combined under this EAN. Independent from the number of tracks this could be an album, a maxi single, a download track or any other format.

How does the product input work?

You create a product in MPN in several steps:

(1) First, you enter the product details,

(2) then enter every track of the product,

(3) add artist details as well as cover and if available the booklet

(4) and finally you choose the campaign and the addressees.

(1) When you are logged in to MPN, you can find the button ‘create new product’ on top of the product list. Click on this button to enter the template ‘product data’

In this product template you can enter various information about your product. Don’t forget to click the button ‘Save’ when you are done with your entry.

Should you not fill a required field or enter the wrong information an error is shown with a red exclamation mark next to the respective field.

Should you not be able to save your entry, please scroll and check the template to find the missing/faulty entries.

(2) Click on the field ‘track data’ and enter the track listing. Should the product have various discs you can add more via the button ‘add set’.

Please send a CD to Acamar, the registration service provider for MPN. (see 2.4 ‘How do the audio data get into the MPN system’).

You end the track entries by clicking ‘Save’ on the bottom right.

(3) After successfully creating a track listing you can add further information under ‘artist data’. You can do this with a link to a certain website and/or as information text.

In the next step you can upload a cover and booklet (see 2.7 ‘Upload cover and booklet’).

(4) In the next steps you create the campaigns and sampling activities and start the sampling.

What is an ISRC and do I really need it?

The International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) is a 12-digit, inaudible digital ID imbedded in the sub code of the audio track. (example: DEA239810012), and identify this track. The ISRC is needed for the license administration i.e. between broadcasting stations and labels, because it clearly associates a track with a company. You can apply for ISRC initial allocation IDs from the Bundesverband Musikindustrie e.V.

When no ISRC is entered in the MPN-track listing the system will put a dummy ISRC. Therefore, an ISRC is not absolutely needed. But it is advisable to at least consider the application for an ISRC initial allocation ID.

How do the audio data get into the MPN system?

You will send a recording medium (CD, also burned CDs; with non-compressed audio files in wav format) to Acamar:

Acamar GmbH

’Music Promotion Network’

Kalscheurener Strasse 8

D-50354 Huerth

It is important that you fill the delivery notice correctly and enclose it, so Acamar can classify the recording medium correctly and no delays occur. You can download the delivery notice here https://www.acamar-service.net/downloads/LieferscheinMPN-AT.pdf as pdf file.

Who is ‘Acamar’

Acamar is a company specialized i.a. in the registration of audio files. It receives the recording media of the MPN products and adds the audio files to the system.

Furthermore, upon request Acamar can scan cover and booklet pictures and upload them to the system.

I saved a product already – why can’t I see it anymore?

Most of the time this is due to filters you have applied. (i.e. ‘Only show products of my label’ or ‘Only show active products’).

You can find the filter settings on top of the product list. Active filters have a white contrasting background.

Can I download cover/booklet pictures?

You can upload cover and booklets to the MPN.

In ‘Cover Booklet’ drag the file to the drag & drop area or click on the Upload area and chose the correct image file(s) from your hard drive. Successful upload is shown through a small preview window and a green check mark.

Image files have to have a minimum of 1200x1200 pixel, JPG files need to have a minimum of 220 dpi in colour mode RGB. Booklet files should be uploaded as double sided (2400x1200 Pixel).

Why re-sample?

Should you have checked ‘Automatically sample’ in the area of re-sample newly added editors will be sampled, that were not registered in the system at the time of activation and were therefore not explicitly sampled (selected).

New editors will not be samples if the box is not checked.

Do I need a label code?

Yes and no: The billing between ORF and GVL is handled via label codes, therefore a label code is recommended; otherwise there might be the risk that some stations disregard the products for that reason. A label code is not needed for registration in the MPN, but should be delivered as soon as possible.

Can I add other information about the artist or the product (short information, tour dates, bios)?

Yes, you can do this in the area of artist information. You can link external websites as well as more comprehensive texts, e.g. promotional texts about the product.

Sampling and sampling costs

What are the costs for sampling through MPN?

The cost for a campaign and the promotional mailing are listed in the current MPN price list here:

https://www.phononet.at/mpn

What do I have to do first to sample a product successfully?

First, please send a recording medium (CD, also burned CDs, with non-compressed audio files in wav format) to the company Acamar:

Acamar GmbH

„Musik Promotion Network“

Kalscheurener Straße 8

50354 Hürth

It is Important that you indicate ‘Musik Promotion Network’ so Acamar can classify the recording medium correctly and you will not face any delays. This should be the first step because mailing route usually consumes the most time within the sampling process. You should plan for about 2-3 working days from shipping date until audio files will be available in the MPN system.

Please refer to 2.2 for all further steps „How does the product entry work?“.

Who has access to my product?

All editors you chose (i.e. sampled) are able to see your active product in the MPN and can listen to the tracks via streaming in full length. Moreover, stations can download product tracks in broadcasting quality.

Where can I choose how long a product is sampled?

After you have entered all information about your product (see 2.2 „product entry“), you may edit the sampling. In the input mask of the sampling you can define the starting date of your campaign. In the frame of a campaign you can define the start and end date of each respective campaign.

How can I make sure that I do not exceed the sampling time frame of 90 days?

The sampling time frame is automatically set through the start date of the campaign. Campaign have an automatic end date (90 days after the start date of the campaign), which you cannot change manually. This helps you to avoid that you accidentally sample too many days and therefore generate additional cost.

Where can I choose the media partners (addressees) I would like to sample?

After you have entered all information about your product (see 2.2 ‘product entry’), you may add addressees to the campaign you would like to activate.

You may choose and reach the addressees manually as well as with a pre-set package ‘full sample’, where all MPN registered editors are sampled.

How and when can and should I activate the sampling?

As soon as you have entered a campaign with at least one promotion, you may activate the campaign as well as the desired promotion.

ATTENTION: With the activation you have to pay for sampling costs and the sampling time frame cannot be changed after activation! Therefore, please activate the product in your favour only,

1.) when the audio files where added and

2.) when you are sure that you entered the time frame correctly

My media partner cannot find my product – what is the cause?

This can have various causes: Either the promotion sampling is not yet active, or you have not chosen the media partner as an addressee. In the latter, you can sample the media partner retroactively, please make sure that you do not create a new sampling time frame that exceeds the already active 90 days.

Maybe the media partner set filters in his product list that prevent the display of the product, a secure indicator for that is when the product can be found via fast search.

What happens with my product when the sampling time frame ends?

The product stays in the system, but status is changed to ‘ended’.

Can I re-activate a product after a sampling has expired?

You can activate your non-active products any time by creating a new campaign. New costs will then arise.
